One's Science Officer Fleet Patrol Escort Build

Here is my current science officer build for a fleet patrol escort. Sci_Fleet_Escort_Gear.png Weapons = 3 Dual Heavy Cannons and 1 Dual Beam Bank in front; 3 Turrets in back. Deflector = Borg. Engine = Borg. Shield = Aegis (I'd rather have M.A.C.O.). Devices = Subspace Modulator (hull defense), Auxi...

Re: How NOT To Dress

First is an example of why it's often difficult for me to get these screenshots. In the time it takes me to max out my graphics options and get the camera lined up, the person tends to beam out or run away. However, there's still a hint of the colors visible... and those eyes!

Everyone enjoyed watching the movie Avatar, or at least pretends to. However, bringing those characters into a Star Trek game crosses a border that should not be crossed. Come on... if you're going to blatantly look like the Na'vi and name your character Neytiri, don't dress in grenades and stuff that blatantly go against everything the movie stands for.

The third bad costume is an example of just how unflattering the STF armor can look. Ok, so I suppose this guy likes shiny armor, but the beard certainly doesn't go with it. Neither does the captain's wide girth.

Finally, we have an example of the problems created by Cryptic. This bad costume is their fault, not that of the player. Who in their right mind would design armor custom-molded to fit a Starfleet officer's testicles?

Some people pull off a good Shrek impression with their costumes. Others don't do so well. If you're going for the grotesque, don't warp proportions to unbelievable dimensions. Costumes like this are a no-no except when going to a costume party.

Pastels are great colors, at least on Easter eggs. Don't go dancing around Starfleet Academy dressed like a jester. Unless you've managed to get your entire fleet to join you (unlikely), it's just not funny.

Re: How NOT To Dress

First is a very nicely colored costume utilizing purple, black, and gold. When I first spotted this costume on Starbase 39, I thought, "Wow, that is very nice looking." Then I noticed how the skirt and boots absolutely do not match the top, and thought, "Wow, that is a bad costume!" Moral of the story: Don't mix costume packs unless they're designed to go well together!

The second costume was spotted last night on Earth Space Dock. Alright, so anyone in their right mind would agree that Earth Space Dock is one of those places where most people just don't wear good costumes. This one, however, was among the worst of the many bad costumes. Color schemes using bring green, blue, white, and yellow scream that a person wants attention. Most color schemes running around Earth Space Dock are bad, but it's not too often one is as noticeable as this one. If you're embarrassed to use zone chat but need to tell everyone to pay attention to you, wear a costume like this one!

Somewhere along the line, evolution took a turn for the worse... I'll admit, I made this character on Tribble. He looks homeless, hungry, and probably has a brain the size you'd expect to find inside a stegosaurus--tiny.

Sometimes I wonder about the type of people who play STO based on the costumes they put on their toons. Hooker boots, a white uniform with purple accents, a floppy thing around the waist (I know it's bugged, but it still doesn't go with the uniform), pink hair, and a tattoo that looks like a scarification on the face? If you're going to do purple and pink, make them at least look good. A good uniform using those colors is intimidating. This is not. Seriously, I think you could do better!

Re: How NOT To Dress

The first was wearing yellow, magenta, and aqua mercenary gear. While matching colors are good for uniforms, this color combination is so bad, it's worse than many of the Crayola costumes running around the quadrant. The individual even had matching skin, and thankfully I only managed a rear screenshot, or you'd see the matching Geordi LaForge visor!

The second bad costume on Earth Space Dock was a mix between the mercenary outfit and some sort of stylist vest, sorta like what you'd expect a Ferengi to be wearing. However, every part of this outfit was colored as if he was trying to emulate camouflage. He might think he's playing Soldier of Fortune... looks more like he's playing Soldier of Fashion!

The third bad costume was spotted at Drozana, and is a mix between Seven of Nine clothing and some other costume pieces. The Seven of Nine costume starts off alright, but when the arms are a different color, it starts to look funny. Toss in some boots from a different costume set, and it looks like you didn't open your eyes when picking your clothes from the closet this morning. Throw a belt on a costume that doesn't need one, and wow, where did this person get their fashion designer?

How NOT To Dress

I'm restarting this from the original site. Whatever you do, don't design your costumes similar to these.
If you don't want to poke out your eyes after this one... something's wrong.

Somehow Nymphadora got the idea that being an example in this thread is a good thing... leading to this character constantly showing me new costumes. I did, however, inform this individual that mismatched colors and costume parts won't be added to my list, since almost everyone in the galaxy does that.<br /><br />Then Nymphadora modeled this bad costume... There's something about those boots in green that makes her look like an elf. She's either one of Santa's helpers or got lost on her journey to Lothlorien. I did increase the brightness on this screenshot since the lighting at K-7 isn't very good.

In one respect, this is a great costume. It's well colored, doesn't contain mismatched items, and generally looks alright. The problem is what it makes others think. If your costume makes me think of a Tonka truck, wet floor sign, or a safety inspector, it's a bad costume.

Chaining Commands

Combining multiple commands to a single bind improves the efficiency of battle. Most chaining utilizes $$ to add another command to the bind. This works best with generic commands like +power_exec Distribute_Shields that are basic UI commands that can run simultaneously. The process gets more compli...

Keybind Files

The easiest way to maintain keybinds is to place them all within the same file. This is a generic text file located within your Star Trek Online/Live program folder. You can then load this file in the game using /bind_load_file <filename>.txt For advanced usage purposes, I have two keybind files for...
