Gameprinted Ships

Postby daBelgrave » October 30th, 2019, 8:44 pm

I got 5" models of my two favorite ships: the U.S.S. Lachesis (MVAE) and the Firebird's Dance (Risian corvette).

First the Lachesis. This ship looks sleek, and feels sleek. The detail is pretty good for being only a 5" model. It's also pretty amazingly close to the game model, complete with the bugged Alpha Section nacelle sticking halfway out. Colors of the pattern are slightly blurred along the edges, but somehow the ship's name is still legible. I probably would have removed the fleet emblem if I'd thought about it, but it's not really an issue since it also turned out well.

Finally, the Firebird's Dance. Picking up this model, I can almost feel the raw power in the bulk of the engines. I get the impression that the curves on this ship are harder to print, as some of the printing texture is still noticeable. The pattern is nice and sharp, but the name of the ship is nearly indistinguishable on the sides of the nacelles, most likely because of hardships printing those curves. I bet this ship would be impressive in a larger side model.
