D-Day Rememberence

Postby Razorwalker » June 6th, 2014, 8:23 pm

We are here today to remember and mark this day in history when the Allied armies joined in battle to reclaim Europe from the forces of Hitler.

D-Day....Everyone knows of this day, most honor this day and few remember this day. That is why we are here. Least we forget and history repeats itself.

D-Day....Many brave people died this day so that others would not have to.....Died doing something that everyone, including Hitler, thought impossible.

The Allied Forces landed an Army on a beach that was considered by many as next to impossible to land on. It was the largest ever ambiphious assault ever

attemped.....over 6,900 Ships, 11,500 Aircraft & 156,000 troops in a single, massive thrust into Normandy.....This is just the first day.

Fathers, Brothers, Uncles, Nephews, Grandfathers......All were there to free Europe from Hilter and the Nazi Juggernaught

They stormed the beach induring brutal weather, getting plummeted by machine gun fire, working past barbed wire and spike traps,

around the tank traps and minefields, all the while watching their comrades fall all around them

They fought the very earth itself, climbing the cliffs off the beach. They fought the machinegun nests and bunkers that were killing Allied troops

Still, they kept going. Not for money. Not for Fame. But for the freedom of those that were oppressed, killed and murdered in the War.

They fought through to the very end, not stopping until the beach was secure. "A Week of Hell" many survivors called it.

Those Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, all fought so that we today could have many of the freedoms that we take for granted.

So, I ask you all tonight...Please, remember those that have fallen so that we could be here today.......

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro' the jaws of Death
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.
